How it works
- Add A PDF with text (25 MB max), an article link or pasted text.
- Listen The sentence and the word being spoken are highlighted; tap a sentence to jump to it.
- Adjust Speed from 0.75× to 3×, 10 voices, pitch, warmth and clarity of the voice.
What the reader does, and what it doesn't
- PDFs put back in order Headings, lists and paragraphs rebuilt; running headers, footers, page numbers and notes left out.
- Articles without the clutter From a link, only the main text is kept: no menus, ads or comments.
- Text pasted as it is Line breaks in the middle of sentences are joined back, and “p. 12” or “etc.” don't cut a sentence in two. Up to 400,000 characters per document.
- French and English The language is detected and the voice picked to match: 5 French voices, 5 English voices.
- Resume Each document remembers the sentence where you stopped.
- Not yet Scanned PDFs (no text), Word and EPUB files, and other languages are not read.
Depending on what you want to hear

Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes, with no account or card, up to about 10 minutes of listening a day. Beyond that, Readotte Plus costs €3.99 a month, no commitment.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Everything happens in the browser, on a computer or a phone.
Where do my documents go?
The text is extracted and read by our servers in Europe. The PDF file itself is not kept: only its text stays in your library until you delete it.
Can I download the spoken text as an MP3?
Yes, with Readotte Plus: the MP3 is put together in your browser from the spoken sentences, with the voice and settings you chose.
Why won't my PDF read?
It is probably a scanned PDF, made of images with no text. Readotte does not read those yet and tells you so.
Can I use the MP3 in a published video?
No: our terms keep the audio for personal use, with no broadcasting or resale.
Do the voices have an accent?
Some French voices come from English-speaking voices and may keep a slight Québécois intonation. Listen to each voice's sample on the Voices page before choosing.
