Readotte: facts and prices
Readotte reads your PDFs, articles and text aloud, in French and English, in the browser. Here is what it does, what it costs and what it doesn't do, according to the service's code.
What the tool does
- Reads PDFs that contain text (25 MB max), rebuilding headings, lists and paragraphs.
- Leaves out repeated headers and footers, page numbers, small-print notes and citation marks such as [12].
- Reads an article from its link, without menus, ads or comments.
- Reads pasted text, up to 400,000 characters per document.
- 10 voices: Caro, Michael, Estelle, Léa and Hugo in French; Alba, Peter, Eve, Heart and George in English.
- Highlights the sentence and the word being spoken; speed from 0.75× to 3× without changing the pitch.
- Pitch, warmth, clarity and expressiveness settings; picks up at the sentence where you stopped.
- Everything runs in the browser, on a computer or a phone: nothing to install.
- The document's language (French or English) is detected automatically and can be changed in one click.
- Speeds: 0.75×, 1×, 1.25×, 1.5×, 1.75×, 2×, 2.5× and 3×. On a keyboard, Space pauses and the arrows go to the previous or next sentence.
- Voice settings: pitch from −4 to +4 semitones, warmth and clarity from −6 to +6 dB, expressiveness for the Pocket TTS voices.
- MP3 (Readotte Plus): the file is put together in your browser from the spoken sentences, with the voice and settings you chose; it is not stored on our servers.
- Without an account, a guest session keeps your documents; when you create an account, they move to it and follow you to your other devices.

Frequently asked questions
Where are documents processed?
The text is extracted and spoken by our servers in Europe (Google Cloud in Belgium, database in Frankfurt). The PDF file itself is not kept, only its text, until you delete it.
Which voices are used?
Open models running on our servers: Pocket TTS by Kyutai (CC BY 4.0), Supertonic 3 by Supertone (OpenRAIL-M) and Kokoro (Apache 2.0). No third-party voice service receives your text.
Is the audio kept?
Each spoken sentence is cached on our servers so it can be replayed without being made again, then deleted after 30 days without being played. The full MP3 is only put together in your browser.
