Ways to study by listening
- Read and listen at the same time
The current sentence is highlighted, and so is the spoken word, so you can keep your eyes on the text without losing your place.
- Speed through what you know
Go from 1× to 1.5× or 2× on material you have mastered, back to 1× for new material. The pitch of the voice does not change.
- Go back over a sentence
Tap a sentence to replay it, or use the arrow keys to move to the previous or next one.
The steps
- 1. Add Upload the lecture PDF. Numbered headings and bullet lists are read as sentences.
- 2. Listen Press play: the current sentence is highlighted, and so is the word being spoken. Tap a sentence to jump to it.
- 3. Adjust Speed from 0.75× to 3×, your choice of voice, and pitch, warmth and clarity settings on the Voices page.
- 4. Pick up later The document stays in your library: reading resumes at the sentence where you stopped.
What the tool does well, and what it misses
- Good: bullet-point notes Each bullet is read on its own, with an end-of-sentence intonation, instead of a run of words stuck together.
- Good: resuming Each document remembers the sentence where you stopped, from one session to the next.
- Worth knowing: diagrams and formulas A figure is not described, and a formula is read as raw text.
- Worth knowing: scanned handouts A scanned handout has no text to read for now.
Frequently asked questions
Can I listen to my notes on the train, offline?
With Readotte Plus, download the lecture as an MP3 and play it in any audio player, with no connection needed.
Are my notes shared?
No. Your documents are only visible in your session. Create an account to find them on another device.
Is it free?
Yes. Without an account you get about 10 minutes of listening a day. Readotte Plus (€3.99 a month, no commitment) removes the daily limit, within a fair use of about 20 hours a month, and adds MP3 download.
