Turn a Zoom recording into short clips
A remote panel, an interview over video call, an online masterclass: Zoom recordings often hold good moments. Here's how to turn them into clips, and the precautions to take.
How do I get a Zoom recording?
Zoom records locally or to the cloud depending on your plan, and both give you an MP4 video file. That's the file to upload: Clipotte doesn't connect directly to Zoom, Teams or Meet.
The file can be up to 3 hours and 4 GB, in MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM or AVI.
Speaker view or gallery view?
Speaker view, where whoever is talking fills the screen, reframes much better vertically. Full frame follows their face and cuts cleanly when the picture switches speaker.
In gallery view, every face is small: the reframe zooms in hard and sharpness drops. If you're recording with clips in mind, choose speaker view in the recording settings.
Can I post excerpts from a meeting?
Only with the consent of everyone seen or heard. Internal meetings often contain confidential information: review every clip with that in mind before posting anything.
Clipotte never posts anything itself. The source video is deleted 30 days after upload, clips 90 days after creation, and your videos aren't used to train models.
Which Zoom recordings make good clips?
The ones made to be watched: webinars, expert interviews, panels, online classes. An audience question and the expert's answer often make the best clip.
Depending on the context, see a webinar into short clips, an interview into Shorts or course clips.
How much for a one-hour recording?
€7.90 up to 1 hour, plus any options: animated captions +€2, blur +€3, hook titles +€1. You can process just the useful range, for instance without the waiting at the start.
If the audio is video-call quality, proofread the transcript carefully: dropouts can cause missing words, which you fix in the editor.

Does it work with Teams or Google Meet?
Yes, as soon as you have the recording as a video file in a supported format.
Can participants in gallery view be blurred?
The blur option (+€3) detects and tracks faces. It isn't foolproof on very small faces: check every track.
Is video-call quality good enough?
Often yes for a clip watched on a phone, but a 720p source reframed vertically loses sharpness. Record at the best quality you can.
Do captions handle several languages in one meeting?
The language is detected or chosen for the whole video. For a bilingual meeting, proofread passages in the other language.
