Scanned slide: bring back detail and colour
The tool works on a slide that is already digitised: a scan, or a photo of the slide on a light source. It does not scan anything itself. It restores contrast, doubles the resolution and rebuilds faces; a slide whose colours have shifted to a single tint can be recoloured.

Digitising a slide well
- A film scanner, if you can
A flatbed with a film adapter, or a dedicated slide scanner, gives the best start. Small film is commonly scanned at high resolution, often 2,400 dpi or more for a 35 mm slide.
- Otherwise: phone and a light source
Lay the slide on a tablet showing a plain white screen, or on a light box, in a dark room. Shoot straight on, without digital zoom, filling the screen.
- Dust it first
Blow dust off with an air blower, never rub the emulsion. The tool smooths fine dust, but a hair or a sharp scratch will still show.
How it works
- 1. Digitise Scan the slide or photograph it on a light source, then crop away the card or plastic mount.
- 2. Upload Send a JPG, PNG or WebP (25 MB max, up to 20 at once for a batch). "Auto colour" keeps the colours still there.
- 3. Compare Drag the before/after slider. If a slide was recoloured and you prefer the other version, rerun it for free.
- 4. Keep it HD for €1.99, or €19.99 for a pack of 30 to cover a whole carousel; or a print, frame or canvas.
What the tool does well, and what it misses
- Good: fine dust, grain, light blur They are cleaned during the ×2 enlargement.
- Good: a slide shifted to one tint In auto mode, an image faded to almost a single colour is recoloured from its brightness.
- Worth knowing: a partial colour cast A slide that still has colour, even off, is not recoloured; try "Colourise" to force it, or the black and white look on a print.
- Not yet: negatives and scratches Negatives are not inverted: scan a positive slide, or invert the negative first. Sharp scratches remain.
Frequently asked questions
Can Souvenotte scan my slides?
No, you need an image file first: a scan, or a photo of the slide on a light source. For phones, see scanning photos with your phone.
What about my negatives?
The tool does not invert negatives: a negative sent as it is stays a negative. Invert it first in your scanning software, then upload the positive image.
My slides have gone red. Will that be fixed?
If the cast covers almost the whole image, yes: the slide is treated as colourless and recoloured, with imagined colours. Otherwise, you can force "Colourise" at upload.
How much for a whole carousel?
Previews are free. HD is €1.99 a photo, €9.99 for 10 or €19.99 for 30, no subscription; unused pack credits are refundable on request within 14 days.
